“Black” mountains, blue sea, green alpine meadows, awe-inspiring canyons, idyllic lakes.
It is certainly one of the most interesting spots in the world - a south European and a Mediterranean country. Montenegro is one of the most southern European states and faces the south part of the Adriatic Sea.
About 500km from Rome, 1.500km from Paris and Berlin, and about 2.000km west from Moscow, Montenegro lies on the Balkan Peninsula in the very heart of Europe.
The part of the Adriatic belonging to Montenegro lays between Croatia in the north-west and Albania in the south-east. This geographic position makes Montenegro perfect for sailing because you can reach it in a just an hour with a speed boat from Dubrovnik, Croatia or 4 hours from Italian coast. Is the member of the UN, OESCE, European Councel and Mediterranean Union.
Montenegro is one of Europe's hidden secrets, but that could be all about to change. The country became the world's newest sovereign state in 2006 when its population voted for independence. Now this tiny republic plans to put itself firmly back on the map.
Is one single day the visitors may relax on one of 117 beaches along the Adriatic coast, wander through the Old Towns of Budva, Kotor or Bar, have lunch while listening to the birds singing by the Skadar lake, climb the peaks of Durmitor National Park, raft down Europe's deepest canyon, explore Europe's last virgin forest or sail into the continent's southernmost fjord.
